This policy brief was written by the South American Network on Applied Economics/Red Sur for the project “Tobacco taxes in Latin America”. The brief presents policy recommendations emerging from studies conducted across multiple Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru) and compares various tobacco taxation policies as part of a greater tobacco control policy across the region. The policy brief recommends that countries in the region increase excise taxes on tobacco products to reduce tobacco consumption in Latin America.
