Cigarette Tax Scorecard (2nd Edition): Oman
This Policy Brief was written based on the findings of the second edition of the Cigarette Tax Scorecard. The brief evaluates the cigarette tax policies in Oman. In 2020, there was insufficient data to calculate Oman's score. The overall score is an average of the following components: the cigarette price, changes in affordability, the tax share of the price, and the tax structure. Oman performed similarly to its region and income group in the tax share and tax structure components of the score. Oman scored higher than the region, income group, and global averages in the affordability change component. This policy brief makes recommendations for Oman's government to implement a more effective tax system that will improve public health while raising tax revenues.
