Kevin Welding, Ph.D.
Kevin Welding is an economist and public health policy researcher based in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Dr. Welding is an Associate Scientist in the Department of Health, Behavior & Society at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He is the Associate Director of the Institute for Global Tobacco Control and the co-director of a WHO Collaborating Centre for Tobacco Control Surveillance and Evaluation. Dr. Welding’s research broadly centers on how corporate influence impacts public health. His work has supported fiscal and health policy change around the world. Dr. Welding’s research includes investigations into the tobacco industry's use of packaging for marketing purposes, the strategic pricing of illicit and legal products, and the estimation of the size of illicit markets. Recently, he has evaluated how the emerging market of e-cigarettes has influenced consumer behavior and industry actions.
Dr. Welding has master’s in economics from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and a PhD in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
