Dr. Jeffrey Drope is the Director of Economics for Health (formerly Tobacconomics), as well as a Research Professor at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Jeff’s work focuses on the nexus of public health (including tobacco control, nutrition, physical activity, alcohol misuse, etc.) and economic policymaking, especially taxation, trade and investment. His work seeks to integrate these areas in proactive ways that engender both improved public health outcomes and economic prosperity. Recent funding comes from the US National Institutes of Health, the World Bank and the Secretariat of the WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. He is the author/editor of three books and more than 100 research articles, chapters and reports on the political economy of non-communicable disease, including in journals such as the Lancet, Preventive Medicine, Tobacco Control and Social Science & Medicine, among many others. Together with colleagues, he works globally to provide technical support and counsel on these issues to governments, intergovernmental organizations, research institutions and civil society organizations. From 2012 to 2020, Jeff was Scientific Vice President of Economic and Health Policy Research at the American Cancer Society and was previously Professor in Residence of Global Health at Marquette University.
